Spring clean your website!

13th Mar 2014

Spring is in the air, so there’s no better time to give your website a tidy up! Over time, websites can become disorganised with pages requiring updating, for example product ranges that are no longer in stock or out of date imagery. Just follow these simple steps and bring your website up to date for spring!

  • Behind the scenes…

Make sure you give your links and images an alt tag which will ensure that they are viewed as being reputable and are indexed by search engines, ultimately improving your sites SEO performance. If your site runs on Drupal, make sure you disable any unused modules and ensure all your enabled modules are up to date. You should also make sure your meta tags are being fully utilised with punchy information, as this can be a great way to help your sites SEO performance. Finally, think about updating your goals in Google Analytics to reflect the changing seasons!

  • Redesign and refresh

This is the fun part! Websites quickly start to look tired as the latest trends evolve, and it’s important to make sure your website is looking fresh and up to date. Think about your branding and how this translates to your website design and layout. More and more emphasis is being placed on ensuring call to actions are prominent to create a clear journey for the visitor. If you’re an ecommerce site, the basket and checkout is a place to focus attention on, to reduce abandonment rates and, of course, increase sales! Also, make sure your branding is consistent throughout your site, for example by ensuring that you are using uniform font sizes and colours.

  • Revitalise your content

Content, the buzzword of 2013, continues to lead in marketer’s vocabularies this year, and it’s agreed by most that fresh, relevant content plays an ever more important role in funnelling traffic to your site and in engaging your visitors. Start by organising the content you have, ensuring that it is relevant to your client base, as well as enhanced for SEO. For ecommerce sites, make sure your product descriptions and images are all up to date to give customers as much information as possible about your products.
